Kitten Glop

In an emergency when commercial kitten milk replacers are unavailable, you can substitute this “Kitten Glop” home recipe. You should switch to a commercial product asap for the best nutrition and safety.

INGREDIENTS
12 oz. water
1 envelope unflavored plain gelatin
1 can (12 oz.) regular evaporated canned milk – NOT condensed. Do not use low fat.
2 tbsp. plain unflavored live culture yogurt
2 tsp. light Karo syrup
2 tbsp. mayonnaise (not salad dressing)
3 egg yolks

DIRECTIONS
Heat water. Add gelatin until completely dissolved and remove from heat.
Add evaporated canned milk
Add yogurt, Karo and mayonnaise
Add egg yolks

Heat will kill the yogurt culture and curdle your eggs, so they must be added after the gelatin/water mixture has been cooled with the milk. Use live cultured plain yogurt. Pasteurizing/heat kills the live culture.

Put in blender or whisk by hand until completely mixed. Even at room temperature, this mixture will “gel.” It liquifies when warmed.

Pour into an ice cube tray and freeze. When frozen, pop the cubes out and store in a ziploc plastic bag in the freezer.

To serve, microwave 10-15 seconds. Test on the inside of your wrist before feeding to be sure it’s not too hot.
